Nunu Fine Art Salon: Ana Teresa Barboza’s In a State of Latency
Join CAMS, Meet Me at the Museum, and the Mexican Student Association at Nunu Fine Art New York as they present In a State of Latency, solo exhibition by Peruvian multimedia artist Ana Teresa Barboza. The artist’s process includes utilising traditional techniques and native plant life whilst collaborating with local artisans. The resulting textiles and ceramic sculptures explore the interplay between natural environments and local communities.
In a State of Latency investigates the relationship between the native plants and the artist’s experience in the dry forest of northern Peru with the region’s cyclical climatic oscillations: all life there depends on short regenerative rainy periods punctuating long dry seasons.
General Body Salon: Does Anybody Make Real Art Anymore?
Join us for an open discussion on the rise of mass-produced art. From Mary Cassatt's prints to Jeff Koons' stainless steel sculptures, we will review the history of art fabrication and the concept of ownership as it pertains to the art world. We will bring into question ways to distinguish an artist's idea versus their execution in completing an artwork and how to give credit to those involved in the creative process.
Guerrilla Girls Salon: Feminism and Activism in Art
Join CAMS for a salon discussing the Guerrilla Girls and their impact on the art world. We will discuss their history, work and projects, and controversies as a precursor to our Q&A session with them on April 15th. Come learn more to prepare for meeting them!
CAMS General Board Salon: Political Street Art
Join CAMS for our second General Board Salon on the topic of Political Street Art! We will have an open discussion on the rise of political street art in the world, its significance in creating necessary change, and the ways in which it can be a potentially dangerous form of propaganda. We will bring into question recent examples of political street art and discuss its future as a legitimate art form.
